The MSHS Green Team has worked on many projects over the years, all in hope to establish a more sustainable and planet-friendly school. We are currently a Level 1 Green School and hope to advance this recognition by starting new projects within our school to become more environmentally friendly.
We started a recycling program in our cafeterias and continue to encourage and educate the student body on how to recycle properly in order to reduce our school's waste. In 2023, we are bringing recycling to sports games, to minimize the amount of bottles and cans that go into landfills.
The MSHS Green Team has been working on restoring the Kimball Creek Slough--a wetland near the Snoqualmie River--since 2017. At the site, we remove invasive plants and have reintroduced several native species to the area.
Our most current project is implementing composting program into our school. This program will reduce the methane created by food rotting in landfills and will provide organic fertilizer for local gardens and farms.
